Chocolate, Peanut Butter, and Bananas, Oh My!
I love sweets. I really, really do. But over the years I've realized when I want sweets, what I really want is CHOCOLATE. I've had many a friend say they've never known anyone who loves chocolate as much as I do. A second thing that I frequently want in my sweets is PEANUT BUTTER. Could there be a better combination than these two rich flavors? Another ingredient I often like to pair this match made in heaven is BANANAS.
I really could eat this combination in indulgent desserts everyday. However, I'm afraid my metabolism probably couldn't keep up! Luckily, I've found a few healthier options for my chocolate-peanut butter-banana cravings. They are lighter, but definitely not compromising on that rich creamy flavor. Even better, all of these recipes only require one or two additional ingredients!
Peanut Butter Banana Frozen Yogurt
There are a lot of different versions of this simple recipe on Pinterest. I believe I used this one from Mostly Homemade Mom. It is just bananas, peanut butter, milk, greek yogurt, and chocolate chips. It is super yummy and gives you that ice cream satisfaction with way less calories, fat, and sugar. It takes a while to freeze completely but it's totally worth it.
Banana Boat
This is the trio from heaven in the purest form- peanut butter smeared on a banana and topped with chocolate chips. Mmmm. Simple and delicious.
Chocolate Mini Muffins
Ok, these muffins are more like truffles. They are incredibly rich and moist. In this recipe from fitbottomdeats.com, all you need to do is throw a couple of bananas, some peanut butter, and cocoa powder in the blender. Pour it into muffin tins, top with chocolate chips, and bake- and you have these delicious little guys. They REALLY satisfied my chocolate craving and I was very sad when they were gone. Time to make some more!
Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie
Now this is the delectable trio in liquid form! Blend a banana (frozen makes for the best texture), a little cocoa powder, a little peanut butter, and some milk. You can add any boost you like such as chia or flax seed or protein powder, it blends right in. This smoothie is rich and super creamy. Great breakfast or post workout snack, or dessert as it tastes a lot like a milkshake. As I am a chocolate fiend, this is definitely my most frequent smoothie.
Are there any other ways you like to combine these delicious ingredients? What's your favorite flavor combo for sweets?
