Stranger Things Party

The Tew family got really into Netflix's Stranger Things when it came out summer 2016. As we heard the release date of season 2, we planned an all weekend marathon.
As it can be difficult to find a time all 7 of us can get together, it was kind of a big deal. We made it a bigger deal by dressing up, and carrying on the theme with food and decor. It was fabulous.

Here's our family cast:
Maddie as Eleven
Nathan as an Eggo
Becca as Dustin
Larry as Deputy Callahan
Me as Nancy
Barbie as Barb
Daniel as Steve
I made a dirt and worms cake to mimic the upside down, complete with a demagorgon.
We had some Pinterest inspired themed drinks.
Of course I had to add some spooky decorations. Can I just say how nice it is to hang up Christmas lights, and want them to look bad?! I usually agonize about how to hang them straight and so the cords don't show. It was such a relief!
We also had a "Castle Byers" sign on the front door. As our family members entered, we had the theme music playing and yelled "Have you seen Will?!"
The next morning we met up for our second session and a classic eggo breakfast.

The third day we finished the series and had Pineapple UPSIDE DOWN cake.
While about 9 hours of TV is a lot for me in one weekend, the series was really compelling and interesting. My favorite movie is The Goonies and I love the nods to that and other 80's films.

No spoilers, but we also appreciated seeing our family name on the screen in one of the final scenes!

  1. This is the best idea ever! We've been loving this show. I love that someone even dressed as a waffle and you had Milky Ways!

  2. Oh my goodness, that looks like so much fun! Such a great idea for a party and group costume. I dressed up my 1 year old daughter as Eleven this year, it's a popular costume this year!
