New.

Happy New Year!
2016.
It's a year that has never happened before.

I think that is exactly why we love new years so much:

A fresh start. A new beginning. Opening the first page of a book. Letting go of our flaws and the past and looking positively forward. We get to start over. New.

Some people roll their eyes at new years. They view it as a time when people make all these ideals about what they will become, and then by the time February rolls around fall into their old habits. I believe it is more than that.

Whether or not we uphold all the grand plans we make, there is no denying each year brings something new. I believe each year brings growth, and something positive, even if we have to dig a little bit.

The new year falls on us like a coat of fresh, pure white snow: clean, untouched, just ready for you to jump in and make your mark.

The year is new, and we get to be new with it.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. -2 Corinthians 5:17

This song from one of my favorite singer-songwriters, JJ Heller, is my news years anthem. May it bring you warmth and hope for 2016!

This year
I’m not looking back to who I was
Because I’m gonna be someone
I’ve never been
This year
I’m not focused on the cracks in the walls
Not keeping track of all the times I fall
This year

This year
I plan on thinking less of "I" and "me"
I resolve to think of "us" and "we"

This year
I can’t wait to see what good will come
To feel alive instead of feeling numb
This year

So long to last year It’s all becoming so clear
There is no use living in regret
 Let’s fight a good fight
Train our eyes to find the light
That makes this year the best one yet!
 Starting right here
Happy New Year!

  2. I think too many people try to marginalize new years these days, which is sad because, yes, it is like new snow, ready to jump in :-) My kids and I love that JJ Heller song btw! I shared it on FB right after new year. Blessings to you as you look ahead to all the NEW possibilities in 2016!
