Cozy Fall Lunch & Pumpkin Patch

Today we hosted a festive lunch and pumpkin patch get-together. It was a wonderful time to gather, adventure, and relax with family who are friends, and friends who are family.

Two cozy soups were the heart of the meal:
Zuppa Tuscana (above)
Accompanied by an assortment of bread, of course.
I baked two batches of cookies.
I highly recommend this recipe for bakery style pumpkin cookies, they are fluffy and fantastic. I also made some simple sugar cookies with cream cheese frosting and "spooky sprinkles". I enlisted help from my sister-in-laws to frost the cookies.
This timer picture is at a terrible angle, but is the only one which captures our whole group.
We headed to Fir Point Farms for our pumpkin patch adventure.
"Tractor Bob" narrated our hay ride with dad jokes and anecdotes a la Disney's Jungle Cruise. We absolutely loved it. He told us that some pumpkins are white because the ghosts come out in the patch at night and scare them "chalk white".
We made friends with some goats.
On the quirky side, we played in piles of hazelnuts in "the nut house" and explored the farm trail, a forest walk with rickety planks across sloshy, slippery mud.

I am not that into the activity of carving pumpkins itself, but for me the experience of the pumpkin patch is an absolute must!

  2. Your post is the embodiment of the perfect fall day! I bookmarked both of the soup recipes - they look so cozy and perfect for fall. I still haven't been to the pumpkin patch yet but have TWO trips planned this week, so it looks like that's going to get checked off my list :) Hope your week is off to a great start!
